Just so people know, last night my computer crashed. I had to get a new computer, install everything, and retrain my voice control. My hard drive's decimated along with everything I had on it for every 'land' community. I'm on checking certain things. For example,I have done quick look over the wallpaper challenge, and will be able to post voting on that. Other than that I'm trying not to sob uncontrollably over the loss of all my information , documents, and graphics or having to retrain my voice control. Obviously this is not easy and my health is not helping but if you need anything in the next two days please comment here in case I miss your post.

And everyone cross your fingers that we will be able to recover my hard drive. Because I need it.

Edit: And that I can get a year's worth of training done in voice control in a week.

Love to you all,

Alex

Also I swear my computer decides to kill itself a week before my birth day every year. Really. Sometimes the holidays too

Does anyone know if Lauren Reed or Julian Sark had any callsign or codename on ALIAS, if so what?

Also if I had to choose a character for a callsign, would you choose Lauren or Carrie Bowman (She could have a callsign darn it!)?

For Carrie I'm thinking her sign could be a Joni Mitchell song. I'm kind of stuck between Little Green, Free Man in Paris, Hejira, and Black Crow? Favorites?

If you think Lauren Reed would be better, any callsign suggestions?

from The article 'Top 5 Female Joss Whedon Characters Not Named Buffy' by J. Paul Norton

5 - Winifred Burkle (Amy Acker ) - Not since Nate the Great have we seen someone in the detective game with such a fondness for pancakes. Probably the smartest character in Whedon's family, but boy could she go off on a tangent. You couldn't help but love "Fred" which made it all the more heartbreaking when her relationship with Gunn crumbled. But, tragedy didn't stop there. As she died in Wesley's arms while transforming into Illyria, she cemented herself as one of the most endearing characters to grace Joss Whedon's collection.

4 - River Tam (Summer Glau) - Joss has always created strong women with a touch of crazy and none of them represented those characteristics more that River Tam. Introduced to us on the television series Firefly, she hit her stride when the show was cancelled and was subsequently made into the full length feature film, Serenity. This child prodigy and ultimate fighting champion was the definition of "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma." But at significant moments she became beautiful due to her sincere vulnerability.

3 - Darla (Julie Benz) - The rock that the most handsome of men broke upon, Darla, like Milady de Winter is the personification of the dark heart within a woman. Add the bloodthirsty nature of the vampire, and you have a recipe for unbridled darkness. For centuries she terrorized Europe until Angel killed her to save Buffy. But after being brought back from death under mysterious supernatural circumstances for Season 2 of Angel she became pregnant. With Angel's son growing in her womb, she once again learned how to feel, and we felt for her. Before our eyes we watched her revel in the love of her child. And her sacrifice of herself so that her son could live left a lasting impression of humanness. She was unique and beautiful, and her bond with Angel only solidifies the fact that her character is worthy to be remembered.

2 - Faith (Eliza Dushku) - What is a story of Slayers and Vampires without a slayer gone rogue? Consumed by guilt after accidentally killing a man she thought to be a vampire, Faith wreaked havoc amongst Buffy's crew and almost killed Angel with a poisoned arrow. But, it was her descent into the darkness and her dramatic ascent back into the light that allows her to stand out among all Joss' female creations. She was strong willed, powerful, sexy, and self destructive, but in the end she walked through the proverbial fire and found herself safe on the other side.

1- Willow (Alyson Hannigan) - There really is no character in the menagerie of Joss Whedon's heroine gallery who should hold a higher rank than Willow. She had an innocence and power that makes her one of the most beloved yet most feared characters in the Buffy / Angel universe. Her goodness is matched only by the darkness she holds deep within her. She has made fans both laugh hysterically and cry uncontrollably. But, in the end she is what we all look for in a best friend.

On that note a graphic heavy Darla fanmix including Courtney Love, Tori Amos , David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Massive Attack, Madonna, Metallica, John Barrowman I made a while back under the cut )

Video by [info]nowgold Thanks for sharing Tash!

As the head of the LA Dollhouse, Adelle DeWitt is a demanding and cold leader who nevertheless allows for breach of protocol or non-standard behavior if she sees value in it. Employees who fail her may be sent to the Attic, like Laurence Dominic, or assassinated, like Joe Hearn. She is never seen engaging in personally revealing conversations with her employees. She may be cold and exacting on the job, but she exercises flexibility with her employees when it benefits the Dollhouse. Topher is blatantly unprofessional in dress and manner, but she is patient and indulgent with the quirks of the genius responsible for the imprints. While Dominic sees Echo's erratic behavior as a threat, DeWitt sees it as an asset which makes her a better doll and a protector of the Dollhouse.

"She's just struggling with being human, and really, don't we all struggle with that from time to time?" - Emma Caulfield

Anya is a former vengeance demon, and before that a girl who didn't quite fit in society. She's acclimating to life as a human, as a woman. She's learning how to live. And with that comes the eyes of the child or rather, the voice. One not hindered by what's appropriate and what's not. Combine that with 100s of years of 'living' and you're bound to have a unique take on life.

She struggles to understand humanity, but in the end willingly, and knowingly sacrifices herself to save it.

And really who needs tact anyway...

Anya: Crap. Look at this... Now I'm burdened with a husband and several tiny pink children and more cash than I can reasonably manage.
Xander: That means you're winning.
Anya: Really?
Xander: Yes. Cash equals good.
Anya: Ooooh. I'm so pleased. Can I trade in the children for more cash?

"I don't understand. I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean I knew her, and then
she's, there's just a body, and I don't understand why she can't just get back in it and not be dead anymore. It's stupid.
It's mortal and stupid, and, and Xander crying and not talking, and I was having fruit punch and I thought, well, Joyce will
never have any more fruit punch, ever. And she'll never have eggs, or yawn, or brush her hair, not ever and no one will
explain to me why."

Xander: Anya, wait.
Anya: Xander, please, just go away.
Xander: Whatever's between us... it doesn't matter. You shouldn't be alone in this.
Anya: Yes, I should. My whole life, I've just clung to whatever came along.
Xander: Well, speaking as a clingee... I kinda didn't mind.
Anya: Thanks. For everything. (Xander realizes that she wants to be alone, and he starts to leave.)
Anya: Xander— (He turns toward her.) What if I'm really nobody?
Xander: Don't be a dope.
Anya: I'm a dope?
Xander: Sometimes.
Anya: That's a start.

Anya: There was this other apocalypse this one time. And, well, I took off. But this time, I don't... I don't know.
Andrew: Well, what's different?
Anya: Well, I guess I was kinda new to being around humans before. And now I've seen a lot more, gotten to know people, seen what they're capable of and I guess I just realize how amazingly... screwed up they all are. I mean, really, really screwed up in a monumental fashion.
Andrew: Oh.
Anya: And they have no purpose that unites them, so they just drift around, blundering through life until they die. Which they-they know is coming, yet every single one of them is surprised when it happens to them. They're incapable of thinking about what they want beyond the moment. They kill each other, which is clearly insane, and yet, here's the thing. When it's something that really matters, they fight. I mean, they're lame morons for fighting. But they do. They never... They never quit. And so I guess I will keep fighting, too.

Andrew: You are the perfect woman.
Anya: I've often thought so.

I'll probably come back and prettify and sense make this later...

Daphne Millbrook is a thief with the power of enhanced speed. She can move herself at speeds fast enough to just barely outrun a nuclear explosion, move fast enough to be at normal speed when Hiro Nakumura slows down time to the point where time appears to have stopped and can extend her ability to those she is in contact with. She suffers from cerebral palsy, and relied on crutches and braces to walk before gaining her powers. She first becomes acquainted with Hiro Nakamura, who refers to her as "nemesis", after she steals his half of a chemical formula that gives ordinary people super powers. She works for the Pinehearst Company under the direction of Maury Parkman (who appears to her as Mr. Linderman), charged with recruiting members. One of the people she is to recruit is Matt Parkman, to whom she is married in "I Am Become Death". Parkman, having seen this future, tries to convince her to quit instead, since it will eventually get her killed. She sees that he is actually a good person and reveals to Parkman that although she is very conflicted about her work and the people she works for, she doesn't have a choice. In "It's Coming", she tells Matt she loves him and defects to Primatech, becoming one of the Heroes. She subsequently helps in retrieving Isaac Mendez's sketchbook of prophetic drawings, and in obtaining a sample of the formula to grant Ando an ability. She then couples her speed with Ando's power amplification to travel back in time to rescue the stranded Hiro, and afterward takes Hiro to Pinehearst to steal back the formula. In "Trust and Blood", she tries to save Hiro and Matt, but she is badly wounded when shot by government agents. She survives and is taken to a medical facility where she is tranquilized and medically treated. Upon being "saved" by Tracy Strauss, Matt takes Daphne to a hospital in which she is treated for sepsis. He projects an image of her having a storybook ending complete with a trip to Paris, but she eventually tells Matt to "let her go". Matt, having also made himself fly in her dream, then flies with Daphne to the moon while the trail in the sky becomes a steady line on a heart monitor. Matt and Mohinder are then shown standing next to Daphne's bedside, where she has died.

(Yes, Sadly I'm quite out of sorts so I just copied and pasted from Wikipedia, but at least I'm crediting Wikipedia... I really wanted to get Daphne in there.)

Same thing with River Tam or Anya.

Julia Roberts’ “hooker with a heart of gold,” couldn’t hold a candle to Inara Serra. This sexy, charming “companion’s” greatest strength is her intelligence. She could outsmart most men (especially ship’s captain Mal). She has a unique gift of being able to provide comfort and impart wisdom, but her talents don't stop there. She also knows how to fight, and she can get herself out of almost any tough situation. She’s a role model to the ship’s perky young engineer, and she is a great asset to the makeshift family aboard Serenity.

There's so much more to be said about Inara but I really can't express it in words. If you have the show or Serenity, you probably understand. If not , get yourself to a Can't Stop The Serenity Screening.

"I’m not a sniveling whiny little Cry-Buffy. I’m the nastiest girl in Sunnydale history. I take crap from no one. . . . Back off, Polygrip! You think you're bad, all mean and haunty, picking on poor pathetic Cordy? Well, get ready to haul your wrinkly translucent ass out of this place, because lady, the bitch is back."

I recently asked Jossverse fans who their favorite female character was. The answer, overwhelmingly was, Cordelia Chase.

"Well, duh"

-Honestly right off the top of my head, it has to be Cordelia. She never wanted the visions that were thrust upon her, she didn't get a choice. But she didn't complain. She took them, she used them to guide Angel in his mission, even at the expense of her own life. That is the greatest good I think of. She was so strong that even when they were killing her, she didn't show the slightest weakness to anyone. Which is a double edged sword since her friends could have helped her. Even on BTVS, when she walks in on a clearly upset Buffy, she offers a ride. She probably had the most character growth of the females.

-Cordelia: she's so FIERCE in the she can fight without powers, and she never feels inferior, she has self confidence to continue on :) She worked to get her dress, too, that kind of broke my heart.

-It's interesting how almost everyone goes straight to Cordelia, seeing as how she's one of the few main characters in Buffy and Angel that doesn't really ever get any super powers. (Besides the visions, but they were useless when it came to fighting.) I think that's what makes her so strong. Buffy is supposed to be this feminist icon of female empowerment because she can kick the ass of everyone around her, but that's all she has. She's always the strongest, fastest, practically indestructible, but mentally she's a very weak. One of my biggest frustrations with being a girl is that I can't kick the ass of the people around me. I mean, I could go to a gym and work out and learn how to fight and all that, of course, but I never had raw power handed to me on a silver platter. Buffy did, and she still whimps out all the time. Can't kill Angel, runs away to be anne, wants to stay dead and leave her friends to fend for themselves. Cordelia, on the other hand, is just like the rest of us. She's this weak little girl who can't fight at all, but she never allows herself to become a victim. While Buffy's continued challenges wear her down, Cordy faces every setback or threat with more strength then the last. Cordelia faces down the same monsters buffy does with only willpower and confidence, imagine what she could have done if she had been the chosen one.

-I agree. That's why I always think that Cordelia is much stronger than Buffy.

Cordelia could have walked away several times. And minus the beginning when she tried to get rid of the visions, she embraced it. And what she sees is, in my opinion, worse than anything Buffy has. She sees and feels and knows the suffering of the people in her visions and yet she still embraces it. Even before that in Sunnydale, Xander had cheated on her, Buffy and the rest were bitches to her, she had lost all of her money and was working a job she hated. She no longer had any reasons to stay a part of the group, but she still helped.

And what she became was this warm, loving, strong female. Definitely one of the greatest role models of the show.

"Those guys are better off squashed, I truly think, but somewhere in that moment of panic a decision got made and I don't want something like that to happen to my friends, or -- and I can't stress this enough -- me."

Photobucket

"And what? I'm not soothing? I can be soothing. I could soothe your ass off, pal."

"Actually, I'm feeling superior because I have an arrow pointed at your jugular. And the irony of using a phallic shaped weapon? Not lost on me."

Photobucket

"It stays with you forever. No matter what they tell you, none of that rust and blood and grime comes out. I mean, you can dry clean till judgment day, you are living with those stains."

Photobucket

"You know, it occurs to me that we've never really had the opportunity to talk... woman to woman... with you locked up. Let's see...what can we talk about? I know! How about the ethics of boyfriend stealing?"

Photobucket

"So very funny. Any minute I'm sure to laugh!"

I'm from Sunnydale. We have our own Hellmouth! I think I know a vampire when I ... am... alone with him in his fortress like home, and I you know I think I'm just feeling a little light-headed from hunger. I'm just wacky! And kidding!

Officer Ziva David is a complex individual with an incredibly complicated personal history, a Mossad agent from Israel sent to NCIS following the murder of a Special Agent by her half brother, Ari, she ends up killing him to protect another Special Agent. After Ari's death, she asked to be assigned as a liaison for Mossad at NCIS.

A study in contrasts, Ziva is Jewish, but not observant of the dietary laws or Orthodox strictures, working on Saturdays and consuming a definitely non-kosher diet. She speaks at least seven language fluently, but has difficulty adapting common usages of American slang. She's a seemingly cool and capable operative, but with a sensitive an empathetic side, as she exhibited when caring for Agent Lee's orphaned sister briefly at the NCIS building. Highly intelligent, tough, she outwardly seems to deal well with the stresses of her work as an operative, yet exhibits disturbing (but perhaps wise) characteristics like sleeping with a gun. David's brilliant, deductive and perceptive while not necessarily socially well adapted. She's a fascinating, mysterious (but what Mossad agent isn't?) and complex woman.

Who are your favorite female tv characters?

Buffy; because no one else can try like she does. no one could have that many apocalypses and crazy exes over their head and still keep going. with puns, too!

Zoe; because she's a beauriful badass. :)

Kendra; slaying was her all.

Joyce; c'mon she dealt with demons, zombies, magic, and still made hot cocoa!

Cordy; she became one of the strongest Jossverse women, in my opinion, out of love. not out of a calling, or a birthright, she just slowly began to love the people they saved. she fought because she loved.

Faith. She was so different from Buffy because she really seemed to embrace being a Slayer. She loved it. It gave her a purpose when before, it doesn't seem clear that she had one. She made horrible mistakes but she was strong enough to realize that and want to redeem herself. That takes some inner strength, to admit your own shortcomings and then ask for help.

Sierra: because she's so helpless, but each persona she takes on has strength, which I think says something about her inner character. She had the confidence to confront the man who put her in the dollhouse.

Whiskey: I know we don't have a lot of back story for her but on the sheer basis of her line in the season finale. "I know who I am."

River: To have your mind ripped apart and stitched back together, and have to live with other people's thoughts and feelings invading your mind constantly is unimaginable. But River is still able to keep herself together, she is able to face what terrifies her and she is able to work with what was done to her. A whole planet of people in your head and your own identity can still remain intact? That leaves me in awe.

Tara: Tara is so close to my heart and I am so fond of her character and how it grew over the short time she was on the show. I think a lot of her strength was tested when she broke up with Willow. She stood her ground even when that meant losing her love and the only true family she had ever known. She was strong enough to walk away, and she was also practical enough and smart enough to know when it was right to come back.

Willow from Buffy. Geek turned uberpowerful witch - like me ;-)

Tosh is a nerd. There’s no denying that. She’s that girl, you know the
one, that sweet, underappreciated computer geek with the secret crush
on the sexy bad boy; only the bad boy is screwing the popular girl and
barely acknowledges the nerd’s existence.

That’s who Toshiko Sato is when we first meet her. And it’s an
accurate description, but it’s not all there is. Tosh is a valuable
member of the Torchwood team. Her knowledge of technology, both human
and alien, has helped save the world countless times. She’s also
terribly loyal to those closest to her.

The biggest surprise about Tosh comes in her second-to-last episode,
when we learn about her past. Good-girl Tosh stole government secrets
in order to save her mother’s life. As punishment, she was imprisoned
in a solitary cell until she was released on the condition that she
work for Torchwood. Her new job suited her. Even when she knew her own
death was imminent, Tosh spent her last moments of life trying her
best to save the lives of others.

As a child, young Ana probably never could've have imagined what lie ahead for her both good and bad. We're first introduced to Anastasia Dualla as the petty officer who worked in the CIC. Her father disaproved of her enlisting in the military, as they came from a very religious pacifist colony. Still she felt it was her duty to serve. And she did. She became an enlisted officer, XO of a Battlestar, and though she might not have always seen it she stayed true to herself through it all despite her giveing her all for everyone and putting her own needs aside for the greater good right to the bitter end.

True, Dee was never the first character to jump out at me, but for the most part with every appearance, Dee kept making me like her more and more. For her weaknesses and strengths.

In her relationship with Lee we were allowed to see both. We also were shown a woman, who could have been in any setting, who was coming to terms with a harsh reality, trying to do the best she could in a less than perfect situation, cared about others even when they didn't show her the same consideration, and was becoming her own, rather strong, person.

I know Dee may not have fit the mold for a lot in the same way a lot of the women on BSG did, but in a sense she was every woman. One might not be able to relate to every action or emotion she had, but I highly doubt one could say they never felt like or acted in the same manner she did.

She was real; she had her moments of quiet desperation, she had her moments of strength. There were times she took charge, and times she had the nerve to say what no one else would. She gave all she had to just about everything, sometimes neglecting her own best interest. She was flawed, but in her own way she was amazing.

Warnining The Following Will Not Make Sense To You unless you've finished watching BSG, even then I can't guarantee I'm not on crack. But I can tell you one thing. That believed to be dead drunk woman hitting on Lee Adama, resist the temptation to write her off.

But for those of you who have seen BSG...

What Can I Say about Ellen Tigh )

Also: I remember there was a really good discussion on Dee somewhere which I wanted to link to for an upcoming post. You guys wouldn't happen to remember where, would you?

Cheerful, energetic Kaylee is Serenity's ace mechanic, a tomboy who accepts anything the universe throws at her with a smile and a bounce. Trained by her father, she's a natural mechanic, which got her the job on the Firefly Transport ship Serenity despite her lack of experience with either that model of ship or a Trace Compression Block engine. While she can find herself flumoxed by particularly difficult problems ("Sometimes, a thing gets broke, it can't *be* fixed.") or by someone who sets out to break a machine instead of fix it, Kaylee is a 'glass is half full' kinda gal. No matter what is going on around her, she's usually able to see the positive side of the situation. Not only an asset to the crew for her technical skills, her upbeat and optimistic personality set a good example for dealing with challenges.

Mal: I don't think there's a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.
Kaylee: *kisses* I love my captain.
